TIFU I Accidentally Took the Wrong Dog Home from the Dog Park...
  • 03
So, here's what happened: I took my golden retriever, Max, to the dog park yesterday, as usual. He's a social butterfly, so I let him off-leash to run around with the other dogs. When it was
  • 04
time to go, I spotted him by the water bowl, called him over, and he happily trotted up. I leashed him, said bye to a few dog park regulars, and headed home.
  • 05
It wasn't until I got inside that I realized... this wasn't Max. The dog I brought home looked almost identical, but was a bit too
  • 06
hyper, and had a weird fascination with my cat, which Max usually ignores. After a brief moment of panic, I checked the tag- and yep, totally different dog.
  • 07
TL:DR; Turns out, his owner had already noticed the switch and was frantically looking around the park. I rushed back with "Not-Max," and

we had a good laugh about it once we sorted it out. Anyone else have one of those "I can't believe this just happened" moments lately?

thatjewboy I have joked for years that, as much as I adore goldens, you could swap two of them between their owners and they wouldn't even notice. you have no idea how vindicated this post makes me feel for the times people say that isn't true.

Busy Current 3831 OP Honestly, I felt like the world's worst pet parent for a second there. 'Not-Max' was so friendly, though, he didn't seem to mind the mix-up at all! Now I'm paranoid I'll grab the wrong dog every time.

yticomodnar I've had goldens all my life. I'm 35. When I was 12, I got my own puppy. A year later, we moved and had to board him for a couple weeks, but I visited a few times. One of those times, I was

adamant that it wasn't my dog. I'm still doubtful.Everything was just... Off. The look, the personality and playfulness, all of it... But everyone said I was crazy. Being young, I just shrugged it off and accepted

that I was wrong, but even today, I still have my doubts. Absolutely certain I got my own dog back when we picked him up though, so worst case scenario, I played with a random golden that day. No harm, no foul.

ladykiller1020 I used to be a dog groomer and sent someone home with the wrong dog once. They were both small, white, and fluffy, with really just a slightly different tail.
  • 15
Owner #1 came, picked up their dog, and left. Owner #2 came, I brought what I thought was their dog out, but they noticed right away that it wasn't.
  • 16
Luckily, Owner #1 had just left about 10 mins prior, so I quickly called him and explained the situation. He ARGUED with me, insisting it was his dog (he was an older gentleman) until I pointed.
  • 17
out the tail difference. One was slightly longer and more curled, whereas the other was straighter and less fluffy. He came back, and it was all fine, but holy was I
  • 18
scared. I was still very new to grooming and figured I was done for cause I'd just not only lost but given away someone's dog. Owner #2 was NOT pleased, to say the least.

ParkieDude We had a 125 Golden Retriever meet-up at the lake. I showed up with five, but seven wanted to come home with me.
